Overview
Recurring credits allow you to sell prepaid usage that renews on a fixed billing cadence (monthly or yearly). Each credit represents a unit of value that customers can spend on metered features. Credits are deducted in real time as usage is reported. Depending on your configuration, customers can also purchase additional credits through top-ups or be charged for overages.Setting up a recurring credits plan
This section walks through creating a paid, recurring plan that grants credits on each billing period.- Go to Product catalog → Plans.
- Click + New plan.
- Select the product the plan belongs to.
- Enter the plan name, ID, and an optional description.
- Click Create.
- In the Price section, click + Set.
- Set Plan type to Paid.
- Click Continue.
- Under Billing model, select Recurring.
- Select the required billing period (monthly or yearly).
- Click Continue.
- In the Charges section, select Credits.
- Click Continue.
- In the Credits – Credit configuration:
- Select the credit type
- Choose the pricing model
- Configure the credit grant cadence
- Click Add.
- (Optional) Configure overage charges and credit top-ups.
- In the Credit consumption section, select the metered features the credits apply to.
- (Optional) Configure additional settings such as:
- Free trial
- Minimum spend
- Price localization
- Click Publish to make the plan available.
Provisioning a subscription with recurring credits
Use these steps to assign a recurring credits plan to a customer.- Go to Customers → Customer accounts.
- Select the required customer.
- Under Subscriptions, click + Add.
- Select the product that includes the recurring credits plan.
- Select the plan.
- Select the number of credits or credit tier.
- Add a payment method for billing.
- Click Create.
Upgrading or downgrading a subscription
Upgrades and downgrades are handled by assigning a new recurring credits plan.- Create a new plan if required.
- Go to Customers → Customer accounts.
- Select the required customer.
- Under Subscriptions, click + Add.
- Select the product that includes the recurring credits plan.
- Select the new plan.
- Select the required number of credits or credit tier.
- Add or confirm the billing method.
- Click Create.
When a plan is changed, the previous credit grant is voided and replaced by the new grant.
