# Get started with the SDKs

Stigg's SDKs are the recommended way to integrate Stigg into your application. Backend SDKs keep entitlements in a local cache, so access checks in the hot path are answered without a network call and keep working if Stigg is unreachable. Frontend SDKs let you gate UI and render paywalls, pricing tables, and customer portals.

## What you need

* A Stigg account. Don't have one yet? [Create one free](https://app.stigg.io/signup).
* Node.js, for the example below. Every backend SDK exposes the same operations.

## Set up

<Steps>
  <Step title="Install the SDK">
    ```shell theme={null}
    npm install @stigg/node-server-sdk
    ```
  </Step>

  <Step title="Initialize the client">
    In the [Stigg app](https://app.stigg.io), go to **Integrations > API keys** and copy the **Full access key**. Initialize the client once per process and reuse it.

    ```javascript theme={null}
    import { Stigg } from '@stigg/node-server-sdk';
    const stiggClient = Stigg.initialize({ apiKey: process.env.STIGG_SERVER_API_KEY });
    await stiggClient.waitForInitialization();
    ```
  </Step>

  <Step title="Provision a customer">
    ```javascript theme={null}
    await stiggClient.provisionCustomer({
      customerId: 'customer-demo-01',
      name: 'Acme Corp',
      subscriptionParams: { planId: 'plan-basic' },
    });
    ```
  </Step>
</Steps>
